Cricket has been played in the villages of Pannal and Burn Bridge since the 19th century, with newspapers having been found detailing games in as early as 1903 against both Huby and Harrogate. The ground, situated on the edge of the picturesque village on Burn Bridge, has been the home of Pannal Cricket Club since 1918, at which league cricket was first played in 1969.

The standard of cricket was of such a level that the first team quickly gained promotion to the first division in 1978, and have remained in the top flight of the Nidderdale League ever since. The team, however, did not capture the league title for the first time until 1997, whilst the club enjoyed four successive cup successes in the Atkinson-Swires Cup between 1995 and 1998.

Pannal CC has since established a reputation for it’s wide range of players, spread across four Saturday senior teams, a midweek Evening League side, a Ladies team and a variety of junior teams between the ages of 7 to 16. Club policy is to coach all comers and to ensure that each junior enjoys match experience, which has contributed to the personal success of a number of individuals, who have then climbed all the way to Yorkshire representative honours.
